Pitch Perfect 2

The hilarious musical movie hit Pitch Perfect directed by Elizabeth Banks, which hit theatres in 2012, has fans excited as ever with it’s sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, coming out in theatres this Friday. The first movie’s “The Cup Song” was a huge hit and stayed in the charts for quite some time, and was all over social media with individuals re-creating the song. A trailer of the film has even been released, including this hit song from the film. Fans have their fingers crossed that the sequel is just as funny and catchy as the first. Viewers favourites, Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick will be returning in the sequel, as well as Brittany Snow and Skylar Astin.

The movie atoryline reads:
“The Bella’s are back, and they are better than ever. After being humiliated in front of none other than the President of the United States of America, the Bella’s are taken out of the Aca-Circuit. In order to clear their name, and regain their status, the Bella’s take on a seemingly impossible task: winning an International competition no American team has ever won. In order to accomplish this monumental task, they need to strengthen the bonds of friendship and sisterhood, and blow away the competition with their amazing aca-magic! With all new friends and old rivals tagging along for the trip, the Bella’s can hopefully accomplish their dreams.”- Chris Greenleaf.

IMDB has rated the movie 7.3/10, and Rotten Tomatoes has given a rating of 75%, stating that “Pitch Perfect 2 sings in sweet comedic harmony, even if it doesn’t hit quite as many high notes as its predecessor”. Given this review, I have high hopes for this film, since I have found that in general, Rotten Tomatoes rates films much lower than I myself would.

I have to say though, what I am most excited about, other than the singing and the comedy, is the lovely Rebel Wilson. I admire this actress to no end, not only for her sense of humour, but also for the fact that she promotes positive body image. She has been quoted saying “There are so many glamorous actresses-but in the real world, nobody looks like that. I want to inspire girls who don’t think they’re cool or pretty”. Since her role in Pitch Perfect, the curvy actress has been cast in many other popular movies, including Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Kung Fu Panda 3 (which will be released in 2016) and Grimsby (also to be released in 2016).

With the movie not even having been made public yet, reports are already being made that there will be a Pitch Perfect 3. And while I am looking forward to Pitch Perfect 2, generally a third sequel (aside from the Harry Potter films of course) does not go well, and is not nearly as funny. Yes “The Hangover”, I am referring to you.
