Jim Carrey mourns the death of his ‘sweet Cathriona’

Jim Carrey’s on-and-off girlfriend, Cathriona White, was reportedly found dead in her home in Los Angeles from a probable suicide.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” Carrey said. He added in a statement obtained by People that she was a “truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

The 28-year-old Irish makeup artist was found with pills next to her body by two friends who were concerned about her, TMZ reports. And LAPD discovered her Monday night. TMZ also reported that sources said White left a note addressed to Carrey that included information about their breakup.

She posted her final Twitter post Thursday which read, “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest.”

Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner told New York Daily News that “it was reported as a possible suicide.” Winter confirmed there was a note to Carrey, but did not confirm its contents, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The coroner’s office did not immediately respond to multiple news outlets regarding information about the death.

White moved to California from Ireland to be a makeup artist. According to E!, she worked on several high-profile shoots, including one with David Hasselhoff and a Vogue shoot with Divergent’s Lyndie Greenwood.

She met Carrey, 53, in March 2012. The two started dating shortly afterward, E! reports, but they broke up within less than one year. In March 2013, Carrey told Irish Independent that he went out “with an Irish girl. We’re not seeing each other anymore, but she is lovely.”

However, the two were spotted holding hands in New York City in May 2015. Carrey also posted a photo she took of him at Grand Central Station last week.
