Veteran US tennis player Venus Williams keeps on her way to the final of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the last Friday she broked easily in the Hong Kong Open semifinals.
Her victim was the french player Alize Cornet, who prescribed a convincing 6-1, 6-1 after one hour monologue by the former leader of the circuit.
The oldest Williams sister didn’t have her best day in the service, she was perfect in the back returns and the proof were six breaks in and many good opportunities. In addition, she was strong in extreme situations and saved four of five break points faced, enough to rile an opponent which dominates the global registry by a lapidary 5-0.
“I’ve been under pressure many times in my career, playing great games, all that experience is helping me,” said Venus.
By reaching the final, Venus will face another ex number one of the world, the Serbian Jelena Jankovic. Born in Belgrade and the fourth candidate in this tournament also came out with her fist raised thanks to a double 6-1 endorsed to the Russian player Daria Gavrilova, sixth seed.
In the other semifinal crossing there will be an interesting comparison between the Australian Samantha Stosur and German left-handed Angelique Kerber, both former members of the Top 5 worldwide.
The WTA Tournament is taking place in Hong Kong, it’s played on hard surface and will give arout 226,750 dollars in prizes.
