Twitter is a hot ground for new information this past week. Chloë Grace Moretz Tweeted last Friday:
“Been waiting a long time to tell you guys !! #TheLittleMermaid going to be a beautiful experience! Can’t wait to show everyone my Mermaid!”

That’s right, the 18-year-old has confirmed the rumors that she will star in the live-action retelling of The Little Mermaid. Ariel is a far cry from her character in the Kick-Ass films, and while I’m more than a little disappointed with her casting, I’m still excited to see my favorite Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale played out with live characters!
The original film was released in 1989 by Disney and earned over $200 million worldwide. Turning old animated classics into live-action films isn’t something new. Disney has recently remade Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and now underway is The Jungle Book and Beauty and The Beast!
With Disney having their hands full, Universal is stepping up to the plate for the project. Richard Curtis has written the script and Sofia Coppola was the working director but backed out of the film last spring due to creative differences.
There is no confirmed date as to when the film will be on the big screen but I’m sure Disney lovers will be at the door waiting once they do.
