It’s official ladies and gents. Steve Harvey has been invited to return as host to the Miss Universe pageants.
Everybody deserves a second chance…a shot at redemption…an opportunity to make things right. Mark Shapiro is the Chief Content Officer of WME – the company now responsible for the pageants – and agrees that Steve should return to their show.
Harvey’s mistake was announcing the wrong winner and runner up. To read more about that follow the link below:
Saying the wrong name, at the wrong time, has lead to massive waves of criticism on the radio, on the internet and of course social media. Perez Hilton was a judge on the show and while he initially had some harsh words about the formidable incident, he has since turned a leaf. He told US Weekly that despite the flub, it would be nice to have Harvey back for another shot. Hilton said:
“They need to bring Steve Harvey back again next year. I understand how he messed it up because of how [the card] was printed.”
Deadline.com revealed that just days before Miss Universe aired, Harvey had actually signed a contract, which named him as the host for a few years. With that, it’s no surprise that he received an invitation to return.
Shapiro did an interview on The Jim Rome Show this past Monday discussing Sunday’s event. He praised Harvey saying:
“He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following. (…) (He) did a great job. He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he has got a great following.”
And, of course, despite his one slip up…no matter how big of slip up it was…Harvey’s resume is hard to ignore. Shapiro told Rome:
“(Steve Harvey) is wildly successful in all different walks of life, with books and radio and television and so. I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself. Look, the world forgives, the world forgets. It could happen to the best of us. He was so well intended, and he’s such a good guy, and it was really such a mistake that I hope people don’t hold this over him other than for just a good laugh and let it pass.”
Harvey will have a year before he has to face the Miss Universe ladies again. We can all be pretty sure he’ll be triple checking the names on the cue cards before reading the winner’s name next time.
Don’t worry Steve…you’ve got this!
