Shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton gives birth to baby boy

On June 1, Bethany Hamilton, 25, and her husband Adam Dirks welcomed their first child – a beautiful baby boy named Tobias. Hamilton announced the news to the world in an Instagram post, saying, Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world. Born June 1st, 7.9 lbs. and 21″ Long. He is named after his great grandpa Tobias meaning “The goodness of God.” Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!”

Hamilton famously and miraculously survived a shark attack in her native Hawaii while she was surfing. She lost her right arm, but she has gone on to continue surfing (returning to the sport just three weeks after the accident) and she even wrote her autobiography called, “Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board.” The movie Soul Surfer was also based on her story. In addition to all of these accomplishments, she can now add having a child to the list.

Hamilton’s Instagram documents the journey of her pregnancy and includes intimate photo shoots with her husband as well as fun photos of her swimming in the ocean while showing off her growing baby bump.

The pregnancy was announced in February, and Hamilton has been very aware of certain challenges she will face while only have one arm, “I think there’s going to be things that will be very challenging with one arm, but I’ll just have to find my own way to take care of the baby … I’ll have to figure it out and be creative.”

Congratulations to the happy family!
