Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces 2016 inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its five inductees for 2016: Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, Chicago, N.W.A., and Steve Miller.

In order to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a musical act has to be around for at least 25 years after their first album is released. Every year, over 600 musicians, historians, and other people in the music industry vote on nominees. Fans have been allowed to vote for their favourite nominee (although their top pick counts as a single vote) as well.

Chicago (23.41%)

The fans’ votes coupled with the industry’s votes have led to this year’s five inductees.

Although some fan favourites like Yes and The Cars did not get inducted this year, there’s still hope for them in coming years; Chicago, who has been around since 1969–well over the 25-year-timeline–just got inducted.
