Red Sox Fan Expected to Survive

A Red Sox fan is in critical condition after Sunday’s game when Tonya Carpenter was struck by a shattered bat. The A’s third basemen, Brett Lawrie, had shattered his bat on a groundout in the second inning which flew into the third-baseline stands and struck Carpenter in the head.
Initially, she had been transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre with life threatening injuries but is expected to survive.
It is common for bats to fly into the stands, but as Lawrie pointed out, when the bats break, anything can happen.
Prayers and thoughts are being sent to Carpenter from the Red Sox and fans nationwide who wish her on a speedy recovery.
