Rebel Wilson: The 100 year old mermaid

I’m not sure about you, but when I was growing up, I was always taught that it was rude to ask a lady her age.

Apparently, that’s not the case anymore. Rumours have been swirling about the age of Pitch Perfect 2 actress, Australian funny-girl, Rebel Wilson. It didn’t stop there either. A recent article by an Australian tabloid alleged that there were inconsistencies with the starlet’s age, name, and childhood background.

As far as I’m concerned, the only time that those things really matter to the public is during The Bachelor/Bachelorette so that I can judge the contestants’ age and hometown in relation to the bachelor/bachelorette themselves. Clearly, this is so I can determine their fit as a couple and their likeliness of a successful relationship due to age and geographic compatibility.

In the case of Rebel Wilson, or any celebrity for that matter, does it really matter? People change their names for different reasons: marriage, divorce, and emancipation. Or, like Phoebe Buffet (the Friends character) did, just for fun. Or should I say, Princess Consuela Banana Hammock.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the story gets a little bit confusing as Wilson speaks up to explain her name discrepancies and childhood background, leading to even more skepticism about the truth. But really, if it doesn’t affect us directly, is it really any of our beeswax? I think are bigger issues to spend time discussing. Wilson shared similar sentiments in her comedic tendencies through Twitter on Monday, stating that she is actually a 100 year-old mermaid.

As the old adage goes, age is just a number.
