Developer Red Barrels has announced Outlast 2 the sequel to 2013’s smash hit survival horror video game. The original game, which launched on PC to start with and was later ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, received acclaim for its atmosphere and mood as it followed an investigative reporter who infiltrated a remote mental hospital only to discover that something had gone terribly wrong.
The sequel, which is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2016 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 simultaneously, has had very few details revealed about it other than a teaser trailer and a description on said video’s YouTube page.
“Outlast 2, the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast, is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets,” the description reads.
“No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. Outlast 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.”
