New York Mother Charged With Killing Newborn Baby

A New York mother has been charged with the murder of her baby daughter. Prosecutors say that the mother lived in her apartment with the dead baby for three months.

Christina Colantonio, 28, is facing second-degree murder charges relating to the death of her new born daughter following a police investigation.

The investigation began on Thursday after a visitor of Colantonio found the deceased baby in the apartment and called 911. After investigating, police believe that Colantonio killed the baby “shortly after birth”, which is believed to have been approximately three months earlier.

Although the cause of death has not been released by investigators, it is reported that there is conclusive evidence to determine that this death was “intentionally caused”. The official cause of death is being determined by a medical examiner and the investigation remains ongoing.

Colantonio is also a mother to two other children, however it is believed that she lived alone in the apartment.

Colantonio was arraigned on Saturday and is being held without bail.

The officers who found the baby have been offered counseling.
