Fictional character, Christian Grey, celebrates his birthday this morning. To celebrate, the fourth book in Fifty Shades of Grey is being released to the North American public.
The book, simply titled Grey, has already been available for purchase in Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Fans that have already gotten their hands on the book have deemed it “perfect”.
The Fifty Shades of Grey series started out as a fan fiction about the Twilight movies but has evolved into its own species. It’s the story of a rich 27 year old (Christian Grey) with a disturbed past who becomes completely infatuated with Anastasia Steele, a mild mannered college student, and introduces her to the world of BDSM. Yup. That’s about it.
Fans got insight into Christians perspective at the end of the third book and wanted more. Author EL James was pushed to write the fourth book, Grey, by fans who were intrigued to delve deeper Christian’s point of view. James says that “Christian is a complex character” that captivates and fascinates readers.
The entire franchise has blown up to insane heights. Grey has become the top pre-ordered book of 2015 on Kindle and is set to make record sales now that it’s released.
Over 125 million copies have been sold from the trilogy across the world thus far – so publishers are ready with another million available for purchase in stores today.
The initial book, Fifty Shades of Grey, was a best seller. The Sam Taylor Wood directed movie grossed over $500 million.
While personally I won’t be rushing to the book store any time soon, it’s safe to say that EL James is on track to have Grey be a success.
