The Miss Universe fiasco* has spilled into the new year. The rightful winner, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, has officially answered back to those calling for her to share the crown.
Of course we all remember Steve Harvey accidentally announcing that Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo was the Miss Universe winner. Well, some people just can’t shake the poor girl from their heads!
After the embarrassing moment, Gutierrez-Arévalo sympathizers have asked that Wurtzbach share her crown and title. The 26-year-old spoke with Lara Spencer this week on Good Morning America and finally went on the record with her response.
“I think it would be a little bit difficult for two girls to share a crown. (…) I have high hopes that this will give great opportunities for me and Miss Colombia. (…) I know that she’s a beautiful young lady – very talented. I think that she’ll have a lot of other opportunities.”
It’s been 42 years since Philippines has had a reigning Miss Universe crowned. It was an unfair suggestion that put Wurtzbach in an awkward position…again. The poor girl already felt guilty and, after all, the mistake wasn’t her fault so she shouldn’t have to share her glory!
With all that said, I’m sure everybody is ready to move on from this – especially Steve Harvey, even though he was asked to return next year.**
