Malware Disguised As Porn App

The app “Adult Player” takes pictures of the user with the front facing camera and then makes the phone inaccessible. Once locked out of the phone, the app demands for 500$ payment for ransom.

This form of malware, termed as “ransomware” can only be downloaded on android devices, through unregulated websites, and as such can be easily avoided. “Ransomware” is a type of malware that takes control of your device and extorts the user for money to regain access.

With Adult Player, the image will appear on a locked screen with a messaged that appears to be from the FBI. Zscalser, a cybersecurity firm says that this can be fixed by , “…rebooting in “safe mode,” and then clicking on “settings,” then “security,” then “device administrator,” and then deactivating the “Adult Player” app. From there, you must go to “settings,” then “apps” and uninstall ‘Adult Player'(CNN).”

The best advice thus far to avoid a similar event happening to android users is to stick to the Google Play Store for all downloadable content.
