JK Rowling Defends Professor Snape Against Confused Potter Fans On Twitter

JK Rowling is known for creating a world of magic with Harry Potter, but some fans are still scratching their heads at some of her choices within the story.

One fan took to Twitter to ask Rowling:

“Why did you pick Snape to name Harry’s kid after? I’m genuinely curious as he was nothing but abusive towards everyone.”

It didn’t take long before there were hoards of fans expressing the same curiosity. And that curiosity was coupled with some resentment for the polarizing character.

Before long, Rowling found herself defending Professor Severus Snape’s character but also Harry’s choice in choosing the namesake for his child.

Potter’s second son, Albus Severus, was named after both Severus Snape and Albus Dumbledore. Snape made Harry’s time at school very difficult (he even killed Professor Dumbledore) but Rowling tells the fans, it was all from a place of love.

Her initial Twitter response was simple:

Unfortunately for Rowling, that response sent fans into a tailspin and they wanted further explanation.

From there, she began a series of Tweets to satisfy the hungry for information Potter-lovers.

She attempted to end the conversation with:

“See what you started, @FrazzyJazzy7? I need to get back to work. Have a good day, Snape-lovers, haters and in-betweeners all xxxx”

It looked like it was put to bed, but the “debate” continued on well into today. Snape, played by Alan Rickman in the films, is the gray area in the Potter world and all Potter fans would do well to come to terms with that.
