Producer Michael Bay and Carlton Cuse, the busiest man in television, are teaming up to bring us a Jack Ryan TV series. Created by author Tom Clancy, Jack Ryan is a CIA agent who has appeared in twenty novels since his creation in 1984 and as well as five films. The character was portrayed by Alec Baldwin (Glengarry Glen Ross, 30 Rock) in the 1990 adaptation of The Hunt For Red October, Harrison Ford (the Star Wars franchise, the Indiana Jones franchise) in the 1992 adaptation of Patriot Games and the 1994 adaptation of Clear and Present Danger, Ben Affleck (Argo, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice) in the 2002 adaptation of The Sum of All Fears and most recently Chris Pine (Star Trek: Into Darkness, Into the Woods) in 2014’s original film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
While no network is yet attached to the project, the combined forces of Michael Bay (the live action Transformers movies, the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie) and Carlton Cuse (Lost, The Returned) seems likely to garner attention. This would be Cuse’s fourth show currently on the air following A&E’s Psycho prequel Bates Motel, FX’s The Strain, and USA’s Colony. While Cuse has a track record of at least decent programming, Bay’s resume is far more questionable but maybe they’ll balance each other out.
