Great news for my tech-savvy readers on a budget, Chinese handset make Huawei has launched a new affordable ‘unlocked’ smartphone called the Huawei P8 Lite. The new handset was formally unveiled by Huawei at a press event held in NY on Tuesday. It’s the third handset which the company has launched in the North American market.
The Huawei P8 Lite is priced at $250 contract-free; and is now available online via GetHuawei and Amazon. In addition, the handset – which is available in black or white colours – is also being sold by retailers like B&H, Target, and Fry’s Electronics; with Best Buy hosting plans to carry the device soon.
The newly-launched Huawei P8 Lite handset boasts an attractive, ultra-slim 7.6mm unibody, a narrow 2.75 mm bezel design, and brushed metal back cover and sides. The handset features a 5-inch, 720p Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display; and is powered by a 1.5 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor.
The P8 Lite comes with dual-SIM support; and runs Android OS 4.4 ‘KitKat’ out of the box.
Some of the other noteworthy specifications of the P8 Lite handset include 2GB of RAM; a 13-megapixel rear camera; a 5-megapixel front camera; a non-removable 2,200 mAh battery; and 16GB inbuilt storage capacity, with 32GB microSD support. The connectivity options on the handset include 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
I for one see great things coming from the China-based manufacturer, and with the spec looking the way they do, it’s definitely a phone for someone who can’t spend the money for something top of the line, or for a small business owner who needs a 2nd phone for personal-only matters.
I’m really looking forward to getting my hands one of these to play around with.
