The live Top 10 episode of The Voice on Monday night gave fans of the show a special treat. Gwen Stefani, 46, did a live performance of her new single, Used to Love you: Look at What You Lost.
She clearly took a note out of Taylor Swift’s handbook when writing the post breakup tune. The emotional ballade was clearly written in the wake of her divorce from Gavin Rossdale. Stefani was married to Rossdale for 13 years but the couple had been together for two decades.
According to Gwen, the lyrics were written “the day after some crazy stuff had gone down, like, crazy stuff in (her) life.”
You might think it would be awkward to serenade your current boyfriend with a song about a previous relationship. But the new couple didn’t skip a beat. Shelton was clearly moved and gave her a standing ovation.
He interviewed with Entertainment Tonight prior to the performance and told them:
“I’m thankful for Gwen for tons of reasons, but mostly just because she makes us all look cool out there.”
He described his lady as “stunning” and “so beautiful” during her performance. She stood on a pedestal amid a faux forest of weeping willows. She wore a floor length, flowing, feathery, transparent gown and despite her usual rocker chick appearance she pulled off the old Hollywood look perfectly.
Blake wasn’t the only one impressed by Gwen. Her team were admiring her from the sidelines. Karin Bukowski told People magazine:
“We watched her rehearsal and she was beautiful and amazing. She did incredible. We’re so happy to have her as a coach.”
