Gotham Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 25th Gotham Awards have been revealed. The awards, held in New York City and named for Washington Iring’s nickname of the town, are for independent films and filmmakers, so don’t expect to see any big studio films on this list.

The big winner this year was Spotlight, based on the true story of the Boston Globe journalists who unearthed the sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests and the Church’s cover up of it in 2002. The acclaimed drama took home the awards for Best Feature and Best Screenplay, as well as the Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Performance and it’s tipped to score further nominations as awards season continues.
