Freight Train Collides With Minivan – Two People Rushed To The Hospital

In Calgary this morning, a woman and a man in their mid-forties ended up being rushed to the hospital after a devastating collision.

At the 5900 block of 17th Ave South East, a minivan and a freight train collided. Stuart Brideaux is the Emergency Medical Services spokesperson working on the scene and reported that the accident took place at around 12:15 a.m. The man and woman were taken to Foothills Hospital in serious but not critical or life-threatening condition.

The two collided at a level crossing and both sides of the minivan sustained “substantial damage,” according to Brideaux. Due to the nature of the damage on the minivan, both of the occupants required immediate extrication from the van.

Currently, rail officials and local police are working together to investigate the details and cause of the collision.
