Growing up, the works of R.L. Stine creeped the hell out of me. I’d read his books and watch the TV show, even though now I can tell the acting was just terrible and they made his stories a bit laughable. Now, a new movie is coming to the big screen.
The trailer was released today and premiered on Good Morning America. It stars Jack Black as the author himself, R.L. Stine. When a new kid in town finds Stine’s manuscripts and opens up the books, it releases all of the monsters Stine ever created. The film is set in Maryland and it looks quite awesome.
It’s a cool concept where it can incorporate all of his stories into one big movie. It sounds like an awesome ensemble that seems to capture the spirit of the original novels. It looks like it will be a PG-rated action comedy with horror elements. I’m glad they seem like they’ll be maintaining the younger spirit of the books and comedy, as seen from the trailer, even though I think some of these creatures could do well in a horror flick with a edgier rating.
Still, I can’t help but excited for the film, set to be released on October 16, 2015. The film also stars Amy Ryan, Halston Sage, Dylan Minnette and Odeya Rush.
