The two children who were found dead two weeks ago in an East Haven, Connecticut home were laid to rest Tuesday. Seven-year-old Daaron Moore and his six-year-old sister, Aleisha Moore, were found dead in their home as a result of natural gas filling the home. They were laid to rest in Easton after a service held at Varick Memorial AME Zion Church in New Haven today. This is a tragedy that has shaken the community.
The children’s mother, thirty-six-year old LeRoya Moore was charged with two counts of murder and three counts of reckless endangerment in the deaths of her two children, Aleisha and Daaron. Apparently, LeRoya Moore was slightly deranged as was reflected in her submission of guilt, stating that she had stabbed her children, when in fact, she had not.
It is still heart-breaking that something was not done sooner to protect the children given that it was known that LeRoya Moore had been charged with risk of injury to minors multiple times in 2002, 2003 and 2006, with her daughter having been identified as a victim and other children appearing to be the other victims. The fact that the children were left in her care is extremely suspicious.
The father of the children, Michael Moore, spoke of his children well, refused to speak of his relationship with the children’s mother and thanked family, friends and his faith for giving him the strength to deal with the death of Daaron and Aliesha.
