Disney Sets Premiere Date For Lion King Spin Off TV Movie

The Disney Channel has given release information for the upcoming The Lion King spin off The Lion Guard. The series will be begun by a pilot movie titled The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, which will air on November 22, 2015 at 7pm on the Disney Channel, the network has confirmed.

The film will serve as a sequel to the classic 1994 film, and follow Kion, the second cub of Simba and Nala as he recruits a varied team of friends to assist him in his duties running the Lion Guard. Rather than pick lions, as is tradition, Kion chooses many types of animals: Bunga the honey badger, Fuli the cheetah, Beshte the hippo and Ono the egret.

The series proper will launch next year, and features the voice talents of Max Charles (The Strain, Mr Peabody & Sherman), Diamond White (Transformer: Rescue Bots, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension), Dusan Brown (Community, Blaze and the Monster Machines), Atticus Shaffer (The Middle, Frankenweenie), Joshua Rush (Heroes, Chuck), Gabrielle Union (Meet Dave, Flashforward), five time Golden Globe nominee Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation, The West Wing) and Academy Award nominee James Earl Jones (Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Backs, The Great White Hope).
