Director’s Guild Award Nominees Announced

The Director’s Guild of America has revealed the nominees for its annual film awards honouring the greatest achievements in directing for the year. The list includes Alejandro G. Inarritu, whose incredible direction of The Revenant was the best part of that film. George Miller received a nod for his terrific Mad Max: Fury Road, which took practical effects to the extreme in spectacular fashion. Conspicuously missing is Steven Spielberg who did some great work in Bridge of Spies last year but has failed to net a nomination.

The category for first time directors also includes a few recognisable names: actor Joel Edgerton made his directorial debut with last year’s horror thriller The Gift, and Alex Garland also makes an appearance for Ex Machina, his first effort in the director’s chair after an accomplished screenwriting career.
