Dengue Fever Outbreak in Yemen

While Yemen is currently facing a humanitarian crisis as Houthi and Saudi forces battle each other, thousands of people have also been diagnosed with dengue fever in southern Yemen. At least 5,000 people have been diagnosed with dengue fever so far as a result of uncollected garbage and untreated sewage.

Dengue fever is a mosquito borne disease that causes fever, headaches, muscle and joint paints, as well as a rash similar to measles. Sometimes, dengue fever develops into dengue hemorrhagic fever which can result in bleeding and low blood pressure, which can ultimately lead to death.

As the United Nations tries desperately to forge a peace in Yemen, more and more people will become infected as health services and sanitation becomes increasingly worse.
