David Beckham named ‘Sexiest Man Alive’

Soccer star David Beckham has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” And of course, this comes as no surprise. The man has spent years as a major sex symbol!

Jimmy Kimmel was responsible for the big reveal on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night. Beckham appeared on the show via video conference from London wearing a mask and answered a lightning round of questions as audience members tried to guess who the identity of the man behind the mask.

The 40-year-old English Football Hall of Famer nabbed the title from the Thor heartthrob Chris Hemsworth, who received the award in 2014.

Beats of No Nation actor Idris Elba, The Martian star Matt Damon and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt were also in the running for the title and Beckham steadily climbed to the top.

Beckham jokingly called the award the “best moment” of his career. “I would obviously like to thank my parents for bringing me into this world, of course. I would like to thank my hairdresser, my stylist (and) Photoshop, ” he added.

On a more serious note, Beckham was happy and flattered to accept the honor. “It’s a huge honor,” he said. “I’m very pleased to accept,” he added. And his lovely fashion designer wife and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham approved of the award too (boy is she lucky).

“I would hope that she feels this way about me all the time anyway,” he said. Surprisingly, he is a person that doesn’t feel that way about himself. “I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person,” he told the magazine with a straight face.

Before he retired in 2013, Beckham nabbed 19 major trophies, played in three World Cups and became the first Englishman to score league titles in four different countries, USA Today reports.

That does not mean that Beckham has remained out of the spotlight. He launched his own H&M menswear collection called “Modern Essentials” and has modeled for the company all while being a father to his four children: Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 13, Cruz, 10, and Harper, 4.

Beckham joins a slew of sexy past honorees including Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Ryan Reynolds, George Clooney, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper and Adam Levine.

You can pick up the new issue of People this Friday. Can’t wait until then? Check more from the Sexiest Man Alive here (courtesy of People).
