Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day

Thursday, July 30th Dairy Queen celebrated Miracle Treat Day!

For over thirty years Dairy Queen has worked with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to help change children’s lives. In both United States and Canada, life saving treatment has been provided to children as a result of the generous donations. Dairy Queen corporate offices and franchises have raised over $100 million to date. The collected donations are handed out to local hospitals. The company website says that the funding is for:

“Critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment and charitable care.”

Participating locations donated $1 from every Blizzard purchased to help sick children in Duke Children’s Hospital. Andrew Valkanoff owns three Dairy Queen locations and was honoured to be a part of giving back to the community for the ninth consecutive year. Since his store began donating to the cause, they have raised over $100,000 but his goal for the day was $15, 000.

Valkanoff had a very hands-on approach. He visited Duke Children’s Hospital with 400 ice cream bars in tow to hand out to patients, doctors and nurses. His stores also had special events and face painting in an attempt to draw more donations.

Some of the participating locations included:

DQ GRILL & CHILL RESTAURANT
1008 Morrisville-Carpenter Road

Miracle Treat Day, now in its tenth year, has raised almost $2 million in the United States. My Canadian readers, you can look forward to Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, August 13th!

Not that you need a reason to devour a delicious Blizzard treat…but the extra incentive certainly doesn’t hurt.
