Country stars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert divorce

Country fans all over are boo-hooing today. One of the most beloved and admired couples in country music is calling it quits.

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are getting a divorce after four years of marriage. According to Taste of Country, the couple has already begun splitting their assets. Shelton will reportedly keep their ranch in Oklahoma and Lambert will stay in their Nashville home.

They filed for divorce two weeks ago, and their marriage was ended Monday, according to TMZ. The couple released a joint statement to Associated Press claiming that they are parting with “heavy hearts” and that “this is not the future we envisioned.”

The couple added that are “real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

Though the couple had only been married since 2011, Shelton and the Automatic singer met while Shelton was married to his former wife Kaynette Williams in 2005. Shelton and Williams divorced in 2006.

The couple sang a duet, You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma, at CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets Concert in 2005. Shelton spoke about meeting Lambert at the duet concert on a Behind the Music special on VH1. He said that it felt wrong standing there being a married man. “Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her right there on stage.”

The couple claimed that they did not start dating until after Shelton’s first divorce. And after five years of dating, Lambert and Shelton wed. Around the time of their wedding, Lambert gushed US Weekly saying that she was happy to be “married to my best friend.”

News of the divorce shocked fans since there has been no public sign of trouble. However, the two have had to spend a lot of time apart either on separate tour buses or across the country while Shelton films for The Voice.

Lambert has told reporters that their careers make it hard to see one another, Fox News reports. But, she has also said that it makes their time together “actually count” and that “divorce is not an option.” Sadly Miranda, you were wrong.

The couple does not have any kids. They reportedly spoke of starting a family one day, though.

Lambert is scheduled to perform again on August 7 at the WE Fest and Shelton will perform Friday in Eau Claire, Wisc.

The couple will not be releasing any more statements regarding their divorce, according to Fox.
