The trailer for the highly-anticipated R-rated marvel film, Deadpool, hit the San Diego comic-con yesterday and now a version that was filmed from the audience has leaked online, furthering the hype. Set to release Febuary 12, 2016, the superhero flick has been a passion project of Ryan Reynolds’ – who of course plays the lead role – for 11 years now.
The film’s development started all the way back in 2004, with David S. Goyer (writer of Nolan’s Batman Trilogy) originally going to direct. That iteration never came to fruition however, and Reynolds ended up playing a botched version of the beloved merc-with-a-mouth later in X-men Origins. However the actor was determined to make a proper version as he had always been a comic book nerd and a fan of the character himself. It took him lots of time, but he eventually was able to get a more accurate depiction in the works – one that was R-rated.
“For one I think it’s an absolute miracle that a studio let us make Deadpool, let alone a Rated-R Deadpool.” said Reynolds regarding the film. “I’ve only ever done one other proper—actually not proper—superhero movie,” he added, poking fun at the box-office flop that was Green Lantern.
The appearance of Reynolds and director Tim Miller was unexpected, making fans all the more excited when the footage was shown at Fox’s panel presentation. The trailer revealed some insight into the movie’s plot, portraying the origin story of how Wade Wilson – a Special Forces operative – became the super-mutant mercenary known as Deadpool. The film will be the first R-rated Marvel comic book adaptation since 1998’s Blade. The role truly seems to be the perfect fit for Reynolds and he reportedly really enjoys playing the character and his rambling violent antics.

As if the reveal – which featured other Marvel characters and teasing of Reynolds’ role as Green Lantern – wasn’t enough fan-service, Chris Hardwick assembled what could possibly be the largest collection of celebrities ever involved in a selfie since the 2014 Oscars. The picture encompasses the casts and crews of the various upcoming superhero movies, including Hugh Jackman, Stan Lee, Ryan Reynolds, TJ Miller, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Brianna Hildebrand, and Channing Tatum – who is going to play Gambit in the forthcoming origin film.
