CBC reports that on Christmas Eve a town house complex was evacuated after a car had caught on fire in a garage near the surrounding townhouses.
It happened around 22:00 at 326 Stone Quarry Pte. near Montreal Rd. where the car had caught on fire inside the garage. Fire fighters arrived shortly after receiving the 911 call.
CBC reported the following:
“They were able to extinguish the vehicle fire at 10:36 p.m. and had the entire situation under control seven minutes later, fire officials said.
No one was in the home at the time. Firefighters evacuated the adjoining units as a precaution.
Smoke from the fire damaged the neighbouring home at 328 Stone Quarry Pte., and fire officials said the owners of that unit will be spending Christmas Day with friends.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $150,000. “
Christmas may have been ruined for this family, but fortunately, it seems nobody was hurt from the fire. Here is a video of a different house fire from Ottawa last year. As the fire fighters arrive on scene, notice how fast the fire spreads from the window to the door and the smoke and fire travels close to the next housing unit. In any attached home complex, what affects your neighbor can affect you.
On a separate topic, for Ottawa tourists and residents, Taffy lane in Ottawa is a sight to see every Christmas season. Most houses on Taffy lane have an amazing display of lights and Christmas decorations on the outside of each house. If you are ever in Ottawa during the holiday season, check out Taffy lane. Here is a video from CTV showing the Christmas lights from this famous street.
