Chris Hemsworth is known for his good looks and buff body, but after a Twitter post last weekend his dapper image was far from fans minds.
On Sunday, Nov. 22 the Avengers star stunned everybody with a sneak peek into his dramatic new look for his upcoming film, In The Heart Of The Sea.
The film is inspired by Moby Dick and the real life events that drove Herman Melville’s story. During the winter of 1820, a whale attacked a New England whaling ship. Many of the ship’s crew perished, and the ones that survived had to make their way through impossible conditions to reach safety.
Hemsworth is playing Owen Chase, who is one of the sailors stuck in the middle of the sea. With such an intense character to portray, the Australian actor had quite a transformation to undergo.

The social media post on Twitter and Instagram showed Hemsworth with long scraggly hair, a large untamed beard and a super gaunt physique!
His photo was captioned:
“Just tried a new diet/training program called ‘Lost at Sea. Wouldn’t recommend it.”
ET interviewed Hemsworth about his role and the challenges of getting into – or out of – shape for the character. He told ET:
“We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to five, six, 700 calories a day, a good three or four weeks and it’s going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we’ll be together in our misery. I spend more time thinking about food than anything else at the moment.”
While it might not be your favourite look for the usually hunky Hemsworth brother, the images certainly create hype for the movie! In The Heart Of The Sea will be in theatres December 11.
