The White House has released a new PSA video as a part of their It’s On Us campaign.
It’s a campaign that aims to end sexual assault by educating people and drawing awareness to the issues that lead to many assault cases every year.
Teamed up with The White House are handfuls of colleges, businesses, media outlets as well as celebrities.
Some of the It’s On Us supporters include:
- Planned Parenthood
While many celebrities support this campaign, the ones who starred in this short but powerful public service announcement are:
- Nina Dobrey
- Josh Hutcherson
- Minka Kelly
- Matt McGorry
- Jesse Metcalfe
- Zoe Saldana
- Jessica Szohr
Their message is simple. To have sex, you need consent. Without it, it’s not sex…it’s rape. The end of the video calls out for people to pledge their support.
Vice President Biden posted the video on Twitter with a message:
“Under no circumstance is assaulting a woman acceptable. Abuse is abuse. Rape is rape. No means no. #ItsOnUs”
In just a short time the video has received millions of views on Youtube and other sites.
The clip is titled One Thing and it’s something that President Obama and The White House should be very proud of. The campaign has been spread over 300 colleges and universities and over 220,000 people have pledged to tackle the issue of consent in their schools.
The thirty second clip may not solve the consent crisis, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
