Starz has dated the upcoming third season of its pirate series Black Sails. The series, which follows the exploits of the pirate captain Flint and acts as a prequel to Treasure Island, will return for its third season of ten episodes on Saturday, January 23, 2016.
According to a press release from Starz, the season “opens in the wake of the destruction of Charles Town, where the world lives in fear of Captain Flint. When his campaign of terror crosses over into madness, it falls to John Silver to locate the man within the monster. Meanwhile, with Eleanor Guthrie gone, Jack Rackham and Captain Charles Vane struggle to secure Nassau for the ages.”
“…all are tested when a new threat arrives in Nassau, one the pirates could never have anticipated. It knows them. It understands them. And in the blink of an eye, it will turn them against each other.”
The series has been a consistently strong performer for Starz and has already been renewed for a fourth season. Created by Jonathan E. Steinberg (Human Target, Jericho) and Robert Levine (Human Target, Harper’s Island), and executive produced by Michael Bay (the Transformers series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Black Sails stars Toby Stephens (Die Another Day, The Machine), Hannah New (Maleficent, Under the Bed), Luke Arnold (The Tunnel, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS), Jessica Parker Kennedy (In Time, Another Cinderella Story), Tom Hopper (Merlin, Knights of Badassdom), Zach McGowan (Dracula Untold, Terminator Salvation), Toby Schmitz (The Pacific, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries), Clara Paget (Furious 6, Johnny English Reborn), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Louise Barnes (Surviving Evil, Borderline), with season three set to introduce Ray Stevenson (Divergent, Thor: The Dark World) as legendary pirate Blackbeard.
