5 Seconds of Summer was on fire Saturday night…literally!
The band was playing at the Wembley Arena in London. It was a sold-out crowd, the boys were sounding awesome and the stage looked incredible! They only had a few more songs to play when it happened. Guitarist Michael Clifford stood a little too close to the pyrotechnics and literally caught fire. He grabbed a towel to put out the flames but by that point his hair and face had already touched the fire elements. Nineteen year old Clifford ran off stage and received immediate medical attention while his band finished the song.
After a short break, band member Ashton Irwin updated the fans. He explained, “Michael has hurt himself so we will not be continuing the show right now. He is okay.”
Fans left the concert reasonably concerned for Michael. He tweeted his own update later on, with a selfie showing his bandaged face. The tweet said:
“What the f–ks up. Sorry I couldn’t finish the encore, but at least I look like two face. Thanks for worrying every1 x.”
Band mates Calum Hood and Luke Hemmings also took to twitter to express what they felt about Michael’s injuries.
- Calum tweeted: “No one ever wants to see your best friend in the state I saw Mike backstage. He’s a trooper and is ok.”
- Luke tweeted: “Incredible show tonight for the most part, mikes in good spirits (heart emoticon)Glad he’s all good!”
Shortly after the incident #GetWellSoonMichael became a trending topic worldwide.
The recovery process may be painful but with friends, family and fans pouring in support – he’ll get through no problem!
