2-Year-Old Twins Drowned by Mother in Arizona

An Arizona mother admitted to authorities that she drowned her 2-year-old twin boys in a bathtub on Sunday. Brandon Busse, a Sergeant with the Avondale Police reported that Mireya Alejandra Lopes, 22, admitted to officers that she killed the boys in an attempt to drown someone else in the family. However, her efforts were thwarted by a relative.

Around lunch time on Sunday, emergency crews were dispatched to the residence. The 911 call came after family members found the twins in the bathtub. By the time police and paramedics arrived on scene, the boys had been removed from the bathtub and were unresponsive on a bed. Both boys were transported to separate hospitals were they were pronounced dead.

The residence is located in Avondale, a quiet suburb of Phoenix.

Lopez is charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide in this incident. A third child of Lopez was not harmed.
